At the 69th All Japan University Karate Championships held at the Nippon Budokan (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) on Sunday, November 16, 2025, the Teikyo University Karate Club won the men's team kata, women's team kata, and men's team kumite, achieving an impressive triple crown. The men's team kata was their 6th consecutive victory and 16th overall, the women's team kata was their 15th consecutive victory and 17th overall, and the men's team kumite was their 7th victory in 3 years. The women's team kumite also advanced to the finals, where they came in second place after a close match.
The men's and women's team kata and team kumite showed a calm performance in all events, advancing to the finals in all events. The women's team kata attracted attention as it was a rematch with Kokushikan University, whom they had lost to in the final of the Kanto University Championships in October, but they showed the results of their training, winning with powerful techniques and a smile on their face.
Following the victory of the men's team kata, the women's team kumite was a close match against Chubu Gakuin University, but they were sadly defeated. However, the men's team kumite, which was the last to perform, won a fierce battle that went all the way to the final match, achieving a triple crown. The venue was filled with warm cheers and applause, and the atmosphere was filled with great emotion.
Masao Kagawa, head coach and instructor of the university's karate club, praised his players for achieving the triple crown in the final tournament of his coaching career, saying with a smile, "Although we lost some matches, the players fought really well. I am overwhelmed with emotion that we were able to win the triple crown in my final year."
The fourth-year students, who had won four titles in their junior years, came to this tournament with great enthusiasm and achieved great results in Kagawa Shihan's final tournament. The team's strength that has been cultivated so far will be carried over to the new system, and further leaps are expected.
We appreciate your continued support for the Karate Club.
