On Friday, June 28, 2024, at the 2024 Annual General Meeting of the Center for Environmental Information Science (general incorporated association), held at the TKP Ichigaya Conference Center in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, Professor Sotaro Tsuboi of the Department of Department of Regional Economics Faculty of Economics Teikyo University, received the Technology Development Award.
The award-winning development of a disaster prevention education program aimed at promoting regional understanding through the creation of topographical models presented a teaching material creation technique and methodology that uses transparent plastic container lids found in the food and deli sections of supermarkets and other stores to draw contour lines on the lids and then layer them to easily create three-dimensional topographical models. Furthermore, this technique is being deployed in actual regional and school disaster prevention education, and this initiative is currently being rolled out both domestically and internationally, in order to serve as an opportunity to link increased awareness of disaster risks with evacuation and support actions.
This award is given to activities that have contributed to the progress and development of academic and technological advances in environmental information science in recent years, and was given in recognition of the high recognition of the practical applications that have been made in the local community and at schools. We have high hopes for the improvement of our university's research and social implementation capabilities, as well as contributions through research and education.
