Fostering students’ abilities to contemplate things in a fundamental way and nurturing perspectives involving overall understandings of human beings
?
While acquiring fundamental knowledge of in various areas of the humanities, students will acquire the specialized knowledge of each department, and at the same time, develop a wide broad-ranging level of education and a perspective entailing and overall comprehension of human beings. When it comes to acquiring these skills, the important thing is to forget about each individual person's awareness of problems. That is because an important foundational element in the humanities is coming to the realization that things once taken for granted were not actually things which should have been taken for granted. In addition, through international perspectives and open mindedness, which constitute one of our Educational Guidelines, we nurture students into the kind of people able to learn necessary knowledge and skills without bias, contribute to the development of society with their abundant creativity and expressive abilities, and accurately address the problems faced by modern society from multiple perspectives.
Adhering to the practical learning principle, students deepen the understanding of their fields through experiential learning with small class sizes
Students will return to the starting point of learning and develop the ability to think about things in a fundamental way. This will foster an education which serves as a driving force for knowledge that can be applied to the practice of various occupations. Through qualification-based specializations, students will be provided education that will allow them to acquire a wide range of knowledge and practical skills.
While returning to the starting point of learning involving the questioning of human beings and the world from various perspectives, we have students receive an education which serves as a method of knowledge. We value students' awareness of problems, nurture their sense of discernment and thinking skills, and practice education which has students acquiring expertise and a broad education.
A new school building was completed at Hachioji Campus, where Faculty of Liberal Arts is located, in 2015. The school has a variety of facilities to support learning, including the MELIC library, which boasts a collection of over 850,000 books, and the LMS, an internet-based learning system.
The seminar activities in the Faculty of Liberal Arts are based on the principle of practical learning. Seminars are conducted not only in the classroom, but also in the city, at historic sites, or at actual education sites. Through fieldwork, students study their subjects of research deeply by experience.
Our faculty members have excellent achievements in their respective fields of specialization, and we leverage their specialties in practical learning-based education. Under the guidance of unique faculty members, students deepen their understanding by undertaking lively exchanges of questions and opinions, and eventually discover and pursue themes for their own studies.
We actively support the acquisition of qualifications for students to formulate their career paths while they are still in school. Students can aim to acquire various qualifications, without limitations on fields, in accordance with their goals and interests. They can also, of course, acquire qualifications that are strongly linked to the specialties of each department.
