Striving to develop medical professionals with strong research skills
The Graduate School of Medicine cultivates foundational clinical abilities for doctors. While it is of course important to achieve results in medical research, the Graduate School of Medicine further strengthens and nurtures the abilities of physicians by helping them recognize the phenomena and facts behind the concepts of disease, diagnosis, and treatment through the process of research.
In accordance with the School Philosophy, the Graduate School of Medicine aims to train highly capable medical researchers and medical personnel with excellent research and medical skills.
The environment surrounding medicine and healthcare is changing dramatically in line with internationalization and scientific and technological developments. Such developments in science and technology have promoted the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods that contribute to the treatment of patients and the maintenance and promotion of people's health in the fields of medicine and healthcare. For this reason, graduate education is becoming increasingly important for students to correctly recognize the impact of social development and internationalization on medicine and healthcare, to contribute to the advancement of medicine through basic and clinical medical research, and to introduce and apply the results of the latest research to the medical practice.
In accordance with the School Philosophy of "International perspectives, creativity, expertise, and practical learning," the Graduate School of Medicine aims to contribute to the advancement of the field of medicine by fostering medical personnel with excellent research and medical skills and highly capable medical researchers. With low barriers between the basic and clinical medical fields, our university is distinguished by its aim of balancing research and clinical practice. Even in the field of basic medicine, students can receive research guidance from faculty members who are leading experts in basic research who also have actual experience in practicing medical care. In the field of clinical medicine, students can learn how to identify the practical and hands-on aspects of clinical practice and pursue them deeply while accumulating clinical experience. We also active collaborating with other universities and facilities, making the most of the wide network of faculty members. Giving presentations at domestic and international conferences and writing Japanese and English dissertations are also experiences unique to graduate schools. We believe that medical research lays the foundation for the clinical abilities of doctors, and that research experience further enhances the abilities of doctors. Our goal is to nurture highly skilled medical personnel with a mind for research and professionals who are active on the international stage.
In pursuit of further developments, the Graduate School was restructured from the previous five divisions to a single division (the Division of Medicine) in 2016. In addition, our fields of study were reorganized to establish the new field of Comprehensive Pathophysiology, which deals with the analysis and treatment of pathological conditions across various fields. We welcome motivated graduate students who are trying to tackle a wide range of challenges in medicine through medical research.
