Hachioji CampusKarate Club Wins Men's Kata at All Japan Student Karate Championships

On Sunday, July 7, 2024, at the 68th All Japan Student Karate Championships held at the Victorina Wink Gymnasium (Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture), Teikyo University Karate Club's men's kata Mitsuo Jibiki (4th year, Faculty of Medical Technology) won his first championship. Yoshida Daiwa (3rd year, Faculty of Medical Technology) came in runner-up, and Kato Taisei (2nd year Faculty of Medical Technology) came in third, dominating the podium. The tournament featured a total of four kata and kumite events for men and women, with 16 competitors who had won the Kanto Student Karate Championships in May participating, including Sato Kotomi (2nd year, Faculty of Medical Technology) who competed in both kata and kumite for the second consecutive year.

Commenting on the results of kata and kumite, Kagawa Masao, head coach and instructor for our university's karate club, said, "Jibiki's kata, who won for the first time in the men's kata, was very good. I think that the quality of practice in the other kata and kumite athletes was evident in the match. Some athletes showed signs of blossoming in areas that were not visible until now, while we were able to identify areas where they still need improvement. There are some things you can only learn by losing, so in preparation for the team competition, I would like to watch over each athletes' growth and bring out their abilities."

Please keep an eye on the future growth of the students, including those who were not able to participate in this tournament, as they work towards the autumn team competition. Thank you for your warm support for the Karate Club.
