On Saturday, October 26, 2024, the Teikyo University Cheerleading Club held a cheer dance class at Teikyo University Hachioji Campus. This event is part of the "TEIKYO Multi-Sports Carnival" organized by the University Sports Sports Bureau to provide an opportunity for students to experience and enjoy sports. The purpose of the multi-sports event is to allow elementary school students in the Tama area to experience sports and the fun of it through interactions with the top university teams and top athletes in Japan. In order to hold this event, we received advice from Kana Iwano, the head coach of the University Cheerleading Club, and the cheer dance class was thoroughly prepared.
Cheerleading Club students worked to ease the tension of the approximately 60 children who participated, and each assigned a role to help them enjoy dancing, all with a smile on their faces. The student who acted as the MC kept the participants excited while also leading the event accurately, and the children concentrated and worked hard on the dance. Some of the students even stayed close to the students during the break to drink water, and they actively engaged with the children, working to ensure they shared a fun time together.
At the dance recital held after each team practice, the children were encouraged to call out to each other so that they could experience the joy of cheering on their teammates, and there were also photo opportunities for parents to take pictures, creating an atmosphere that everyone could enjoy. At the end of the event, the students also told the children that the most important things in cheerleading are "energy, courage, and smiles!", bringing smiles to their faces.
Teikyo University will continue to hold sports events that are closely connected to the local community, creating opportunities for children to experience sports.
