Saturday, December 9, 2023 10:00-11:40 | [Title] Straits loved by literary figures and artists: Landscape beauty of modern Koseto considered from the perspective of comparative culture between Japan and China Shimonoseki (formerly Umaseki) is a town located on the westernmost tip of Honshu, facing the Kanmon Strait. In this town, which has been the scene of many historical events such as the Battle of Dan-no-ura, the Shimonoseki War, and the conclusion of the Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty, there is another strait that once fascinated writers and artists with its unique beauty. It is little known that it exists. In this course, from the perspective of comparative cultural research between Japan and China, we will consider how people at the time perceived the natural landscape, using the beauty of the landscapes and waterways of Koseto as seen in the eyes of modern Japanese people. |
