From Monday, April 1st to Friday, April 5th, 2024, Jeremy Cook, Vice-President of Durham University (UK), which has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Teikyo University, visited our university.
He visited Japan to attend the 2024 entrance ceremony as an overseas guest, but on other days he also participated in various events at the Hachioji and Itabashi campuses.
At Hachioji Campus, the students met with faculty Faculty of Languages and Cultures who are implementing the Durham Study Abroad Program, and then participated in an orientation for the Department of Department of Global Japanese Studies, where they congratulated the new students on their enrollment and offered words of encouragement. They then toured the University Museum, MELIC, and Telaco, providing a valuable opportunity to experience the university's learning environment.
On Friday, April 5th, at the New Academic Year Commemoration International Lecture held at Itabashi Campus, he gave a lecture on the theme of "Student Mental Health," in which he discussed the growing mental health issues and causes among students in the UK. Although the lecture was given in English, the entire audience listened intently, and there was an active question and answer session after the lecture.
Through his visit, understanding and collaboration between our university and Durham University has been further deepened. We will continue to aim for an even broader collaboration with Durham University in order to further strengthen the relationship between our two universities.
