On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, Teikyo University Utsunomiya Campus held a Special Open Lecture on Life Sciences for the University's Faculty of Science and Engineering Department of Biosciences.
The Advanced Bioscience Lecture is a lecture series in which faculty members of the department introduce cutting-edge topics in various fields in an easy-to-understand manner, covering not only the field of bioscience but also a wide range of topics in chemistry, the environment, and other fields. This time, as an open lecture, we invited one of our alumni, Mr. Shingo Ishihara, President of Maison Cacao K.K., an aromatic raw chocolate specialty store, to give a lecture.
Ishihara, a rugby player who joined our university's Rugby Football Club and served as the first student coach in his fourth year, working hard to improve the team's performance, spoke from a variety of perspectives, including how he came to make chocolate, the characteristics of cacao cultivation, sustainable efforts in Colombia, where it is produced, and connections with domestic producers, as well as bioscience, management, marketing, and branding. After the lecture, there was a lot of Q&A, and in response to a question such as "How do you go about starting a company and expanding your business?", he replied, "I think it's important to approach anything with passion, whether it's to pursue your own goals or to gain the sympathy of many people, including your colleagues and customers."
On the day, more than 100 students attended the lecture, including not only students taking the Special Lectures in Life Sciences course, and the lecture ended in great success. Our university will continue to invite our graduates and other active members of society as Senior Assistant Professor to provide a place of learning.
