On Monday, June 3, 2024, the 2nd Teikyo University Athletic Club Academic Award Ceremony was held at Teikyo University Itabashi Campus. The winners of the group award were Itabashi Campus Kotaro Nishio, Soft Tennis Club (4th year, School of Medicine), Asuka Kobayashi, Volleyball Club (3rd year, School of Medicine), Hachioji Campus Tomoya Yabe, Track and Field Club (4th year, Faculty of Economics), Cheerleading Club Miri Sato (3rd year, Faculty of Medical Technology), Judo Club (Women) (4th year, and ). The University's Chairman and President Yoshihito Okinaga awarded the judo club (women's) Ryo-ka Kishie (Faculty of Medical Technology 4th year) on the same campus.
This Academic Award is given for the second time since last year, and aims to foster an atmosphere that emphasizes the balance between academics and club activities and to increase the value of sports at our university by honoring sports club members who have achieved excellent results in their academic studies, which are the primary duty of students. In addition, this year, a new individual award was established with the intention of evaluating the efforts of each individual student and contributing to the improvement of the academic performance of all sports clubs at our university by honoring individual students who embody both academic and athletic excellence, and three students were awarded the award.
On the day, Chairman and President Okenaga handed the award certificates to the representatives of each club and offered words of encouragement, saying, "I would like to congratulate you all for receiving this award, which represents the culmination of your daily sincere efforts in sports and your serious attitude toward your studies. Our university values both academic and athletic excellence, but both sports and studies are learning processes that help people grow. I respect the fact that you have continued your activities while balancing sports and academics. I believe that you will inspire other students and create a wonderful environment that will foster their minds, including their ability to think. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors."
On behalf of the award recipients, Nishio-san of the Itabashi Campus Soft Tennis Club expressed his gratitude, saying, "We are very honored that our club activity has been recognized by the Teikyo University Athletic Club Academic Award. I believe that we were able to receive this award because each member of the club has made an effort and built a relationship where we help each other grow. Furthermore, there is no doubt that the university has provided generous support in both academics and club activities. Thank you very much for your tremendous cooperation. We will continue to focus on balancing club activities and academics and aim for further growth. Finally, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for giving us such a wonderful opportunity. Thank you very much." We look forward to the continued success of all the award recipients.
