From Saturday, June 29 to Saturday, July 6, 2024, Teikyo University Graduate School Graduate School of Public Health held the Teikyo International Summer School. We welcomed students from our academic partner school University of Southern California School of Medicine Master's Program in Global Health Graduate School in the U.S., students from Atma Jaya University in Indonesia, and students from Chulalongkorn University School of Public Health Graduate School in Thailand, who gave lectures in English together with our students.
In the Healthcare Management course taught by Professor Yoshinori Nakata of the Graduate School of Medicine, students focused on organizational management. After learning about key management-related topics such as leadership and communication, they participated in group discussions and presentations using case studies. In the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Aging Society course taught by Associate Professor Mariko Inoue of the Graduate School of Medicine, students learned about the current state and history of Japan's healthcare system, as well as an overview of UHC, a global development issue, and studied UHC in the context of the aging societies facing the world.
During the school, we also visited the Taito Public Health Center and the Kaga Sakuranomori Special Nursing Home in Tokyo with their cooperation. The students presented their work in groups, which provided an opportunity for active learning and allowed them to propose ideas for future improvements, deepening their understanding of public health in Japan.
This year, students from four countries, including Japan, participated in the program. By gathering together in one place, students from different cultures could be seen chatting together not only during lectures but also during breaks and after school.
Teikyo University will continue to provide an international environment and practical learning opportunities to nurture global talent. We hope to expand the network of students studying at our university, both domestically and internationally.
