Emergency Information on Nankai Trough Earthquakes (Massive Earthquake Warning) issued

Following the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that occurred in the Hyuga-Nada Sea at around 4:43 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued an emergency notice on the Nankai Trough earthquake (giant earthquake warning). It is believed that the possibility of a large-scale earthquake occurring in the expected focal area of the Nankai Trough earthquake is relatively higher than usual. Faculty, staff, and students should continue to live their normal lives, but for the time being, please review the following points to prepare for an earthquake.

• Please pay attention to information released by the Japan Meteorological Agency.
• Please double-check your earthquake preparedness by checking evacuation sites and routes, inspecting your disaster prevention supplies, and taking measures to prevent furniture from falling over.
• Please check how to contact your family and others in the event of an earthquake, including how to use the disaster prevention message dial.
• If you are traveling in the area from Shizuoka Prefecture to Miyazaki Prefecture, please be sure to frequently check information released by the Japan Meteorological Agency.
• If you visit the above areas, please be aware of the possibility of landslides and tsunamis.
