The 56th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Medical Education was held at Teikyo University Itabashi Campus over two days, Friday, August 9th and Saturday, August 10th, 2024. A pre-conference workshop was also held the day before, Thursday, August 8th, making it three days filled with medical education.

The conference, which had the theme of "Diversity & Inclusion: Medical Education for Everyone to Shine," was chaired by Hiroko Okinaga Okenaga, Vice President and Professor School of Medicine, and Yumiko Okubo, Professor of the Medical Education School of Medicine and Head of Center, served as the Executive Committee Chair. The conference was a forum for the exchange of cutting-edge knowledge and opinions from Japan and abroad on medical education that cultivates the fundamental qualities and abilities of medical professionals, cooperates with multiple professions, and produces doctors and medical professionals who can respond to changes in a diverse and developing society. In line with the conference theme, symposiums, workshops, oral presentations, and poster presentations were held in the Clinical Auditorium and many lecture rooms of the university on a wide range of topics, including SOGI and the working styles of female doctors and researchers. Many faculty members and students from the university took to the stage to present the future of medical education and their research, and lively discussions were held. In addition, the university plans to use the lecture recording and distribution system actually used at the university to distribute recorded lectures on demand at a later date. This conference was attended by over 1,700 people from a wide range of professions involved in medicine and medical education, including participants from overseas, making this the highest number ever.

This conference was organized by faculty members at Itabashi Campus and Teikyo Heisei University, across the boundaries of their faculties, with School of Medicine Medical Education Center and Department of Medical Education at the Faculty of Medicine, which support medical education at our university, at the center. Regarding the implementation of this conference, Okubo, the conference executive committee chairman, said, "It is a great honor for our university to be entrusted with hosting the conference for the second time after the 10th conference. Thanks to the cooperation of the faculty and staff at Itabashi Campus and 120 student volunteers, and the support from the Faculty School of Medicine Alumni Association, Teikyo University was able to come together and welcome medical (medical) education professionals from Japan and abroad, and the participants were pleased that they had learned a lot. The research presentations by students and the exchange events with students from other universities that were planned by students were also well received, and we were able to introduce our university's educational practices both in Japan and overseas. Many participants praised the efforts of the student volunteers, and I felt that this was the result of our university's education."
In the future, through medical education, our university will continue to nurture excellent doctors and medical professionals who have a spirit of independence and self-reliance, and will also contribute to society by engaging in various educational and research activities.
