Hachioji CampusPakui Seminar conducted a field survey at the Aya Center Guruguru

On Friday, September 6, 2024, the Teikyo University Faculty of Law Department of Political Science Pakui Seminar visited the Aya Center Guruguru (Adachi-ku, Tokyo) and conducted a field survey. The Pakui Seminar is conducting research on the theme of "local autonomy," and has many opportunities to visit the site and hear from actual people in charge, especially about the initiatives being undertaken by local governments.

This facility was established by Adachi Ward as a "community hub where people, things, and events circulate" under the ward's concept of "try what you want to try," as a place where people who want to start something and people who want to support each other can gather. It is the first facility in Tokyo to be selected as both an "SDGs Future City" and a "Municipal SDGs Model Project" by the Cabinet Office, which selects outstanding initiatives by local governments toward achieving the SDGs, and is an initiative unique to Adachi Ward, which is proactive in promoting SDGs.
This initiative is being carried out mainly in the Ayase district by Adachi Ward, which aims to "break the cycle of poverty," in collaboration with ward residents and businesses. The students gained an in-depth understanding of the process by which this initiative spread from the Ayase district to the entire Adachi ward.

The Pakui Seminar believes that it is important to start SDGs activities from things close to home, and will provide an opportunity to think about preventing food waste at the Seisha Festival to be held on Saturday, October 26th and Sunday, October 27th. With the cooperation of organizations promoting food waste countermeasures and corporations that provide employment support for people with disabilities, we plan to set up a mock store that will serve lunches using ingredients that are close to their expiration date and disaster preparedness food that is about to be thrown away.
The Pakui seminar will continue to actively visit local government offices to conduct research and studies, as well as engage in a variety of practical activities.
