Final evaluation meeting Hachioji CampusFungus Emoji Project was held

The final evaluation meeting for the Fungus ^* Emoji Project was held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus. The aim of this project is to create emoji related to the university's unique research on medical mycology in the form of emoji, a character style that originated in Japan and is widely accepted internationally, and to make them widely available. The project involves faculty and students from a variety of research fields, including Koichi Makimura, deputy Head of Center of the Medical Mycology Research Center at the university, faculty from the center, Yukari Hagiwara, a Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Japanese Cultures Faculty of Liberal Arts who studies animation and manga, and students from Hagiwara's seminar.
At the final evaluation meeting, the fungus emoji data designed by two students from Hagiwara's seminar was shared with attendees, and the final design to be used as the emoji was decided after listening to the students' design intentions. The teacher researching fungi and the teacher and students researching animation had different points of focus, and a unique design was completed by incorporating the opinions of both parties.
Going forward, we will continue the project with the aim of releasing the emojis.

Fungi play a role in maintaining the natural environment on Earth, and produce fermented foods that are essential to our lives, such as miso, bread, beer, wine, and sake. However, some fungi cause human diseases and are called "medical fungi." The Medical Mycology Research Center is one of Japan's leading specialized institutions researching fungi and the diagnosis and treatment of diseases caused by medical fungi.
