Received the Tsukuba Mayor's Award atUtsunomiya Campus Tsukuba Challenge 2024

On Sunday, December 8, 2024, a student from the laboratory of Yamane Ken, lecturer in the Department of Information and Electronic Faculty of Science and Engineering, Senior Assistant Professor Department of Information and Electronic Engineering, Teikyo University, won the Tsukuba Mayor's Award at the Tsukuba Challenge 2024 run held at Tsukuba City Hall (Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture).
The Tsukuba Challenge is a technology challenge to make a mobile robot navigate autonomously within the city of Tsukuba. It has been held every year since 2007, and open experiments are conducted with the aim of advancing autonomous driving technology in the real environments in which people live their daily lives.

From our university, a team consisting of students from Yamane Laboratory and Senior Assistant Professor Yamane participated. The robot EvoLuhx developed by the team completed the 2.2km challenge course in about an hour, achieving the required milestone 3 "Finish (Goal)". In addition, while autonomously driving, it also successfully completed Option A "Passing through an area without prior measurement" and Option B "Crossing a road with signal recognition". Of the 78 vehicles that participated in the race, only 14 completed the course, only 4 completed the challenge, and only 2 completed Option A. These excellent results led to the team receiving the Mayor's Award.
Senior Assistant Professor Yamane said, "This is the result of not only the technology and experience that our university has accumulated, but also the support and cooperation of the staff at the training factory, other universities and research institutes with whom we have exchanged technology, and companies. We will continue our research to realize intelligent systems that can flexibly process information in the real world." We look forward to seeing great things from the Yamane Laboratory in the future.
