On Monday, December 23, 2024, the Environment and Energy Symposium "Energy Security Towards Carbon Neutrality and Global Trends in Nuclear Energy Development" was held at Teikyo University's Kasumigaseki Campus. This symposium was co-hosted by our university and the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF), and presented the current status and future of domestic and international energy security and nuclear power development during the decarbonization transition period based on the results of research and surveys conducted by researchers from our university and the association.
In this sixth session of the seminar, we took up the timely issues of energy security toward carbon neutrality and trends in global nuclear power development, which were discussed with participants amid the current climate crisis and the escalating energy crisis caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the tense situation in the Middle East. The day started with greetings from TUAT's Chairman and President Yoshihito Okinaga, followed by four lectures. From Tohoku University, Okinaga Research Institute Specially Appointed Professor Kaku Sisi, Advanced Comprehensive Research Organization Tanuma Laboratory, Senior Assistant Professor Tominaga Junichi, from Japan Nuclear Energy Industries Association, Tomohiko Kita, Research Director of the Association, and Seiyoshi Takeda, Technical Advisor of the Association, presented slides based on their research and study themes, and discussed trends, issues, and future developments in energy, clean power, and nuclear security in the decarbonized era from the perspective of S+3E and other factors. The lectures covered various aspects of energy, clean power, and nuclear security in the decarbonized era, including trends, issues, initiatives, and future developments from the viewpoint of S+3E and other research themes. In between lectures, participants deepened their understanding of trends and issues in energy and nuclear power development in Japan and abroad through a question-and-answer session, and Mr. Shu Masui of Chairman gave closing remarks. The symposium was attended by approximately 90 people from industry, academia, and government, and was a great success. We would like to thank everyone who participated. The University will continue to actively disseminate its research results to society in relation to important issues of domestic and international society.
