On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, a "Sasumata Training Seminar" was held for police officers at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus with the cooperation of Minami-Osawa Police Station.
At this seminar, participants learned how to properly use the sasumata (baton) provided on campus to protect themselves and other students in the event of an emergency. The sasumata is an effective way to restrict the movement of the other person, buying time until the police arrive, and the seminar aimed to teach practical techniques. A self-defense class was also held, providing a valuable opportunity for the participating staff.
Hiroaki Kurose, administrative director of our university's Hachioji Campus said, "We hope that we will never have to face a situation where we actually need to use this tool, but being prepared will act as a deterrent, and in the unlikely event that it does occur, we would like to use what we learned today to ensure that our staff can work together to respond."
Teikyo University is constantly working on crisis management and crime prevention measures to ensure an environment where students can study in peace.
