On Friday, July 25, 2025, the results of the 30th All-Japan High School and University Calligraphy Exhibition, which determines the grand prize winner for student calligraphy, were announced, with the Teikyo University Calligraphy Club coming in 7th in the group university division, and the work of Mana Kuriyama (4th year, Faculty of Liberal Arts) winning the highest award, the Calligraphy Exhibition Grand Prize. This year, only 58 works were awarded the Calligraphy Exhibition Grand Prize out of a total of 9,005 entries, making it a very competitive competition, but once again, a work by a member of our university's Calligraphy Club was able to win the Grand Prize.
In response to this result, Junya Fukui, head coach of the calligraphy club at our university, commented, "More than the team's seventh place result, I am proud of the time the students spent working on their own work. How will they turn this experience into a force for personal growth? We will continue to support them as they take on this challenge." Club captain Koko Otobuchi (3rd year, Faculty of Liberal Arts) also commented, "Personally, I was not strong enough, but I am truly proud of the result we achieved together as a team. I feel frustrated, but this disappointment marks a new starting line for us. Next year, we will put this experience and the emotions welling up in our hearts into our work."
In addition, the calligraphy club will perform a calligraphy performance together with Shikoku University after the award ceremony for this exhibition, which will be held at the Osaka Center for Global Education (Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture) on Friday, August 22. Both universities have performed calligraphy performances at calligraphy events at the Osaka-Kansai Expo, and this time they will perform again to commemorate the 30th All Japan High School and University Student Calligraphy Exhibition.
We appreciate your continued support for our university's calligraphy club.
