Fukuoka CampusStudents from Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology and Assistant Professor Wanai received the Best Presentation Award and Encouragement Award at the 15th Chugoku-Shikoku Clinical Engineering Society.

At the 15th Chugoku-Shikoku Clinical Engineering Society, held at the Hiroshima International Conference Center (Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture) on Saturday, September 6th and Sunday, September 7th, 2025, Teikyo University student Tomonori Ikubo (4th year Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology) won the Best Presentation Award, and Assistant Professor Keizo Wanai Department of Medical Technology at the same faculty won the Encouragement Award.

Ikubo is a member of the Veterinary Extracorporeal Circulation and Blood Purification Laboratory (VECBP Lab) in Medical Engineering Course of Department of Medical Technology, and is conducting research under the guidance of Assistant Professor Wanai. At this conference, he presented a research paper titled ``Ex vivo quantitative evaluation of perforation force during forceps manipulation in canine colonoscopy.''
At VECBP Lab, we are actively conducting research in veterinary medicine as part of our efforts to develop new areas of expertise for clinical engineers. In addition to our previous focus on the cardiovascular and metabolic fields, we are currently expanding our research into the field of endoscopy, with a view to expanding into a wide range of fields in the future, including respiration, pacemakers, and catheter treatment.
Assistant Professor Wanai gave a presentation in the Medical and Healthcare Equipment Development Needs category titled "Needs for visualization of pressure load during endoscopic examinations to prevent perforation." He focused on "unquantified and unvisualized pressure load," which is one of the causes of perforation risk during endoscopic examinations, and demonstrated the need for equipment development to resolve this issue. Going forward, he plans to collaborate with a Hiroshima company to advance equipment development.
These studies are expected to expand treatment options in veterinary medicine in the future and are expected to make a significant contribution to the development of medical technology.
