Panamerican University Directives Visit Teikyo to Strengthen Academic Collaboration

Teikyo University welcomed distinguished visitors from its long-standing partner institution, Panamerican University (UP) of Mexico, in late September 2025. Antonio de los Reyes, Rector of UP’s Aguascalientes Campus, and Ramiro Velázquez, Vice Rector, visited Teikyo’s Hachioji, Utsunomiya, and Itabashi campuses over a three-day tour from September 25 to 29, reaffirming the partnership’s enduring strength and exploring new directions for collaboration.
The visit began on Thursday, September 25, at the Hachioji Campus, where the delegation joined a Spanish language class taught by Associate Professor Yuichi Sendai of the Faculty of Languages and Cultures. Engaging directly with students, Rector de los Reyes encouraged them to study abroad, remarking, “I hope many Teikyo students will experience the joy of learning in Mexico.” Following the class, the delegation toured campus facilities and met with Professor Yoshimi Hirata, Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Cultures, to discuss the future of student and academic exchanges.  Vice Rector Velázquez reflected on the decade-long collaboration between the two institutions, saying, “It has been 10 years since Panamerican University and Teikyo University began collaborating—it is gratifying to see how our partnership has continued to develop.”
The following day, the delegation traveled to the Utsunomiya Campus, where they held discussions with Professor Masayuki Arai, Director of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, exploring ways to revitalize research and exchange opportunities between the two universities. The visit concluded on Monday, September 29, at Teikyo’s Itabashi Campus, where Rector de los Reyes and Vice Rector Velázquez met with Chairman and President Yoshihito Okinaga, as well as Graduate School of Public Health faculty members Professor Yoshinori Nakata, Professor Takashi Asayama, Assistant Professor Mariko Inoue, and Professor Takuya Yamada. During the meeting, Rector de los Reyes extended a formal invitation for Dr. Okinaga to attend the inauguration of Panamerican University’s new teaching hospital in Mexico City, set to open in 2027.
Chairman Okinaga, who last visited UP’s Aguascalientes Campus in 2015, expressed his enthusiasm: “I was deeply impressed by my visit to Aguascalientes, and I look forward to witnessing the remarkable progress UP continues to achieve.”
The partnership between Teikyo University and Panamerican University began with a joint double-degree program in science and engineering for graduate students. Although the initiative was temporarily paused during the COVID-19 pandemic, both sides agreed during this visit to resume and expand the program. ?
The meetings not only reaffirmed the mutual commitment to academic cooperation but also laid the groundwork for future collaboration in research, education, and faculty exchange. Moving forward, Teikyo University and Panamerican University aim to deepen their strategic partnership, fostering innovation and global engagement for the next generation of scholars.
