A guest speaker from Hachioji City was invited to give a class atHachioji Campus

On Monday, October 6, 2025, a public policy class taught by Associate Professor Akira Pakui of the Department Department of Political Science, Teikyo Faculty of Law, invited a guest speaker from the Hachioji City Environment Department's General Waste Consultation Center to give a lecture on the theme of "Hachioji City's efforts to realize a circular society."

The lecture introduced the organization of Hachioji City Hall, the work of its staff, and the administrative management system. It also included a clear explanation of the city's waste reduction and resource recycling policies, using concrete data and video footage. In particular, the lecturer spoke in detail about the results of policies that have attracted attention nationwide, such as the introduction of a fee for household waste, the door-to-door collection system, and the use of incineration ash in eco-cement. He also touched on key policies aimed at realizing a recycling-oriented society, such as reducing food waste and recycling plastic resources. It was a valuable opportunity to learn about the administrative services that are closely connected to the lives of citizens.

Many students in Department of Political Science aspire to become civil servants, and students commented that "I learned about the wide range of work at city hall and was able to visualize my future more clearly," and "I realized once again how public policy is directly connected to our lives." Going forward, the Public Policy course will continue to invite practitioners active in the field of administration to deepen students' understanding of public policy through learning that connects systems and the field.
