Students from Department of History Geography course conducted field research in Chiba Prefecture, tracing traces of tourism, history, culture, and crustal movement.Hachioji Campus

From Tuesday, August 19 to Thursday, August 21, 2025, students of the Department's Geography course conducted field research in Tateyama City and Minamiboso City, Chiba Prefecture, as part of the Geography Field Training program offered by Teikyo University Faculty of Liberal Arts Department of History Associate Professor Junpei Hirano.

The purpose of this field trip was to gain practical geographical perspectives on-site through observations of natural landscapes and interviews with local residents under the guidance of a teacher. 19 students participated this time. On the first day, the students visited the Tateyama City Tourism Association, where they received an explanation about the current state of tourism and its challenges. On the second day, they received a lecture on the history and culture of the Tomiura area from a curator of Minamiboso City, after which they toured the coast from Tateyama City to the Chikura area of Minamiboso City, observing the topography of the coastal terraces formed by uplift caused by the Genroku earthquake of 1703 and the Great Kanto earthquake of 1923.
Participating students commented that "observing the scale of the coastal terraces that were uplifted by the earthquake on site deepened my understanding," and "I realized the importance of hearing directly from local people about things that aren't written in books or papers," providing a valuable learning experience through Practical learning.
