On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the Japanese representatives for the Grand Slam Tokyo 2025, an international judo tournament scheduled to be held in December, were announced, with Yoshino Sachiyo (2nd year, Faculty of Medical Technology) from Teikyo University's Judo Club being selected. Two alumni of the university's Judo Club, Omori Ikuzumi (graduated from Faculty of Medical Technology in 2023) and Omori Akari (graduated Faculty of Medical Technology in 2025), were also selected to represent Japan, meaning three people from our university will be competing.
The Grand Slam Tokyo is a tournament in the World Tour organized by the International Judo Federation (IJF), boasting a prestige second only to the Olympics and World Championships, and as the only Grand Slam tournament held in Japan, it attracts great attention both from within Japan and overseas. Results at the tournament are reflected in the world rankings and play an important role in determining future Olympic participation. Yoshino has steadily accumulated achievements in international competitions, including a gold medal at the World Junior Championships and a silver medal at the Grand Prix Linz, and her consistent performance on the international stage has been highly praised, leading to her selection. Expectations are high for her continued success against the world's strongest competitors.
