At the 38th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery (JSES 2025), held at Pacifico Yokohama (Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture) from Thursday, December 11th to Saturday, December 13th, 2025, research by Associate Professor Professor Okochi Masayuki, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Teikyo University School of Medicine, and Professor Sugimoto Maki, Innovation Lab, Okinaga Research Institute, was awarded the KARL STORZ Prize from the Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery.
This award, established in 1999 by the Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery, is one of the society's most prestigious awards and is presented to outstanding research results that have made a significant contribution to the development of Surgery surgery. Awards are rigorously judged based not only on academic originality but also on future clinical application and educational value.
This research used XR (Extended Reality) technology to spatially visualize vascular anatomy, and the usefulness of this new method of utilizing it to support skin flap reconstruction surgery was highly praised, leading to this award.
We look forward to the continued success of Associate Professor Dogo, Professor Okouchi, and Professor Sugimoto.
