Professor Tsuboi of Faculty of Economics gave a lecture on disaster prevention, "Considering the shape of the region and disaster prevention through maps and topography," at the disaster prevention specialist training seminar in Nasu-Shiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture.Utsunomiya Campus

On Saturday, December 20, 2025, Teikyo University Faculty of Economics Department of Regional Economics Professor Tsuboi Shoutarou gave a follow-up disaster prevention lecture for disaster prevention specialists, "Regional Shape and Disaster Prevention Considered by Maps and Topography," at the Nasushiobara Kuroiso Community Center (Iki-iki Fureai Center).
In Nasushiobara City, there are more than 600 disaster prevention specialists, the largest number in Tochigi Prefecture, and the city is working to strengthen cooperation even during normal times, including the establishment of a liaison committee of disaster prevention specialists in 2024 for the purpose of smooth information sharing and activities. In this workshop, all 70 participants traced contour lines using transparent plastic container lids and stacked them to create a three-dimensional topographic model.
Participants commented, "I thought I knew about the region, but the topographic model gave me new discoveries," "I was able to visualize an area that could be isolated in the event of a disaster, and I will use it as material to communicate to the community in the future," and "I was able to understand the mechanism of disaster occurrence from the topography. I will use this as a material to communicate to the local community in the future. We will continue our efforts to contribute to the improvement of local disaster preparedness and response through surveys, research, and on-the-ground practice.
