A special lecture on "speaking tips" was held Faculty of Languages and CulturesHachioji Campus, with the guest speaker, Kyokudo Nanko, and the Yamazaki Seminar of the Faculty of Foreign Languages.

On Friday, December 26, 2025, Teikyo University Faculty of Languages and Cultures Department of Foreign Languages Professor invited Kyokudo Nanko, a professional storyteller belonging to the Namiya Storytelling Association, as a guest speaker at Seminar II/Graduation Seminar II, which is taught by Naoya Yamazaki, and gave a special lecture on the topic "Kyokudo Nanko Lecture and Storytelling - Tips on Speaking from Traditional Storytelling Kodan". Approximately 30 students from the Yamazaki Seminar, as well as international students, faculty, and staff, attended the event.
The Yamazaki Seminar emphasizes the strengthening of presentation skills, and students are encouraged to set themes based on their own intellectual interests, organize their research, and present their findings in a logical manner. For this special lecture, we invited Mr. Kyokudo Nanko, a traditional Japanese storyteller with a career spanning more than 25 years, to Senior Assistant Professor to give a valuable talk on how to speak confidently in front of others, which is essential for presentations. The workshop also included a workshop in which students experienced a kodan performance on the stage, demonstrations of classic and new kodan, and a question-and-answer session.
The secret to confident public speaking," said Mr. Nanko, "is to practice well in advance and gain experience. This is also true for learning foreign languages, which is the major of many of the participating students, and it provided an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of continued, steady effort.

Our university will continue to broaden knowledge through lectures by guest speakers with a wide range of practical experience, and will continue to cultivate individuals who can think and make decisions independently.
