Educational Goals

The Graduate School of Economics, by its School Philosophy, aims to nurture advanced professionals who can be accepted in international society through academic and practical research in economics, business administration, and related fields from a global perspective in response to globalization and the advanced information society. The second semester of the doctoral program aims to nurture more advanced professionals and researchers by cultivating advanced research skills and a wealth of specialized knowledge.

Three policies of the Graduate School of Economics

The Graduate School of Economics aims to nurture advanced professionals capable of solving problems posed by globalization and the advanced information society through the acquisition of theory and knowledge of economics from a global perspective and practical research, as well as being accepted by the international community. The degree is awarded to those who have acquired the following abilities and have completed the prescribed credits.

  1. Acquire basic knowledge, advanced expertise, and research methods related to the theory and practice of each major.
  2. Conduct discussions and presentations based on the specialized knowledge acquired in this major.
  3. Students in the master's program may deepen their research on a specialized research theme and complete a specific research project as a master's thesis or collaborative thesis.
  4. Students in the doctoral program will acquire more advanced professional knowledge and research methods in their major field and will be able to present their research at academic conferences and complete their doctoral dissertations at a research level with a certain level of originality.

In order to enable students to acquire the abilities set out in the degree awarding policy, Graduate School of Economics has organized its curriculum according to the following policies.

  1. Students will acquire a wide range of fundamental knowledge through taking basic courses.
  2. Students will acquire advanced theoretical and practical expertise through specialized courses taught by professors with diverse backgrounds in industry, government, and academia.
  3. In the master's course, students will deepen their research on a specialized theme through exercises and complete a master's thesis or research on a specific subject. Furthermore, students will acquire discussion and presentation skills through practical training and joint research.
  4. In the doctoral program, students will receive not only individual guidance from their supervisors but also joint guidance from a thesis guidance committee, including a meeting for a thesis draft presentation.

The Graduate School of Economics and Management aims to nurture advanced professionals who are capable of solving real-world problems posed by globalization and the advanced information society, and who can be accepted in international society, through the acquisition of theory and knowledge from an international perspective in economics and business administration, as well as through practical research. The degree is awarded to those who have acquired the following abilities and have completed the prescribed credits.
In this way, the purpose of this graduate school is to acquire the ability to analyze various economic and management problems raised by the real world and find solutions, and therefore, first and foremost, interest in economic and social problems. You need to be aware of the problem. It is extremely important to study a wide range of fundamental knowledge in economics and business administration, as well as knowledge in related fields such as statistics, in undergraduate schools.
We are looking for candidates who have the following abilities and qualities acquired through studies at high schools:

  1. The student has a strong interest in issues that arise in economic society and a desire to learn more about these subjects.
  2. The student has acquired a broad range of fundamental knowledge in various fields of economics and business administration, as well as in different disciplines across humanities and sciences, and possesses the basic academic skills necessary for post-entry study.

Division of Economics

In accordance with the objectives of Graduate School of Economics Division of Economics Economics has established an Economic Theory and Applied course in Economics in the Practical learning 's Program, which aims to train highly specialized professionals who can play an active role in the international community and have the ability to solve economic problems posed by globalization and an advanced information society through the acquisition of economic theory and knowledge from an international perspective and through practical research.The Doctoral Program aims to cultivate high-level research capabilities and deep specialized knowledge, focusing on the economies of Japan and Asia, and to train specialized researchers and even more highly specialized professionals.

The Division of Economics aims to nurture advanced professionals capable of solving problems posed by globalization and the advanced information society through the acquisition of theory and knowledge of economics from a global perspective and practical research, as well as being accepted by the international community. The degree is awarded to those who have acquired the following abilities and have completed the prescribed credits.

Master's course

  1. Students will be able to use economic theory to analyze economic phenomena in Japan and abroad, and will be able to solve specific economic problems using specialized research methods.
  2. Students will be able to deepen their research on a specialized research topic and complete a specific research project as a master's thesis or a joint thesis.
  3. Students in both courses should be able to deepen their research on a specialized subject and complete a specific research project as a master's thesis or a collaborative thesis.

Doctoral degree program

  1. Students who possess a higher level of expertise in each of the corresponding fields.
  2. Students who possess more advanced research skills and is able to present research results with a certain degree of originality at conferences.
  3. Students who should be able to complete their doctoral dissertation under the guidance of their academic advisor and the dissertation guidance committee.

Master's course

Division of Management

In line with the objectives of Graduate School of Economics, Division of Management aims to train talent who can function in the international community through academic and Practical learning research in business management, accounting, tax law, informatics, tourism management, and related fields in response to the highly information-driven society. The Master's program aims to train highly skilled professionals with specialized knowledge based on interdisciplinary knowledge of business management, accounting, informatics, and tourism management. The Doctoral program aims to train even more highly skilled professionals or researchers by cultivating advanced research capabilities and a wealth of specialized knowledge in business management, accounting, informatics, and tourism management.

The Division of Management aims to nurture individuals who can become specialists or researchers in corporate management with problem-solving skills and the ability to develop plans and proposals. The degree is awarded to those who have acquired the following abilities and have completed the prescribed credits.

Master's course

  1. Students will be able to acquire the academic ability and problem awareness in both theory and practice related to business administration, accounting, tax law, information science, and tourism management appropriate for each of the following courses: MBA course, tax law (tax accountant) course, accounting (tax accountant) course, information management course, and tourism management course.
  2. Students who are able to conduct discussions and presentations utilizing their expertise in the relevant field according to their mastery of each course.

Division of Regional Economics and Policy

In line with the objectives of the Graduate School of Economics, the Division of Regional Economics and Policy aims to develop highly skilled professionals who can contribute to regional development by identifying and analyzing issues faced by urban and rural areas from a global and national perspective through the acquisition of theory and knowledge of regional economic policy and field research.

  2. Students who have specialized research methods and knowledge from regional economic policy studies regarding various problems faced by diverse regions in the world, including Japan.
  3. Students in the master's program who have deepen their research on a specialized research theme and complete a specific research project as a master's thesis or collaborative thesis.

In order to enable students to acquire the skills set forth in the degree awarding policy, Division of Regional Economics and Policy has organized its curriculum according to the following policy.

  1. The courses are divided into basic subjects and specialized subjects. The students are required to acquire the fundamentals of regional economics and policy studies in the basic subjects.
  2. Through specialized courses taught by professors with diverse backgrounds in industry, government, and academia, students will learn analytical methods related to regional economics and policy, as well as specialized theory and knowledge.
  3. Students will deepen their research on a specialized topic through seminars and complete a master's thesis or research on a specific theme. Students will receive not only individual guidance from their academic advisor but also collaborative assistance through presentations of their thesis drafts and research projects.
