Curriculum structure seeing even after passing the national examination
In response to the growing social needs of recent years, the "Certified Psychologist Law", which stipulates national qualifications for psychological professions, came into effect in September 2017. In addition to the qualifications of examinations for clinical psychologists and clinical development psychologists, the university has curriculums that support the training of certified psychologists from 2018 at both undergraduate and graduate school. We have prepared various supporting environments.
What is a Certified Public Psychologist?
A certified public psychologist is a national qualification that proves specialized knowledge and skills in psychology. A certified psychologist grasps and consults the current situation of those who need psychological support while cooperating with other specialists in the fields of health care and welfare such as hospitals, education such as schools, industry and labor such as companies, and justice and crime. It is also an important activity to provide local people with an opportunity to learn about mental health.
About acquisition of national examination qualification of certified psychologist
To qualify for the Certified Public Psychologist National Examination, students must complete the required courses at the graduate school or gain practical experience in accredited institutions after graduating from the undergraduate courses required for the exam.
Curriculum and supporting environment that support the acquisition of exam qualifications
1. 1. Practitioner education that connects universities and graduate schools
In the Department of Psychology, students can take the certified psychologist program from the 3rd grade. This program consists of Psychological Exercise I and II, Psychological Training I and II, and the responsibilities of the certified psychologist, and is characterized by offering psychological exercises and psychological training throughout the year. In addition, the curriculum is structured with consideration for continuity with the curriculum of division of Clinical Psychology at the Graduate School of Liberal Arts. We train practitioners though the curriculum in doctoral course, such as Division of Clinical Psychology in the Department of Psychology
2. Study at new facilities
In September 2019, the training room and practice room were significantly renewed. With one of the largest playrooms in Japan, it has become possible to experience the real developmental dynamism of children in their childhood. This makes it possible to nurture the perspective of behavioral observation, and by treating the data obtained by observation as research, it is possible to approach from both sides of clinical practice and research.
3. Practical training at Teikyo University Mental Health Center
Teikyo University Mental Health Center University is an actual clinical venue open to the community. It is also a place of practice for master's programs and certified psychologist programs in order to acquire expertise to meet the needs of the community. We aim to acquire the skills required in the actual field from counseling to visitors, reception and telephone correspondence, and we also provide support so that students can learn as a trainee even after completing the Division of Clinical Psychology.
4. Abundant off-campus training cooperation facility
At this university, students can practice in all five areas of "health care area", "welfare area", "education area", "industry and labor area", and "judicial and crime area" where certified psychologists can play an active role. This can be achieved because we can utilize the abundant faculty members who can cover five areas and affiliated institutions such as Teikyo University Elementary School and Teikyo University Kindergarten.
5. A variety of faculty members who are familiar with various fields
Our university has one of the largest number of full-time faculty members in Japan who are active in each field. It is also characterized by a wide range of faculty specialties from animal experiments to social psychology and clinical psychology.
6. Support by the training support room for certified psychologists, etc.
We opened a training support room for certified public psychologists (hereinafter referred to as the support room) to support the acquisition of qualifications. Full-time faculty members are stationed in the support room and accept consultations. Not only certified public psychologists, but also clinical psychologists, clinical development psychologists, certified psychologists (psychological surveys), etc., and general qualifications using psychology, consultation on course registration and questions regarding practical training can be consulted. We make recommendations for the enhancement of the psychological practice curriculum and make daily improvements to provide better products.
7. 7. Obtaining various exam qualifications
In the Division of Clinical Psychology students can obtain not only certified psychologists but also clinical psychologists and clinical development psychologists. There are only a limited number of divisions in Japan that simultaneously provide the qualifications for these three psychological professions.
About special measures
In order to avoid the situation where those who enrolled in psychological universities or graduate schools before the enforcement date of the Certified Psychologist Law in September 2017 cannot take the Certified Psychologist National Examination, there is an"exception of qualification for examination". (Article 2 of the Supplementary Provisions of the Certified Psychologist Law).

Issuance of Certified Psychologist Examination Completion Certificate and Course Registration Certificate
Please see below for details on issuing a certificate of completion and a certificate of course registration. In addition, it takes about two weeks to issue certificates for those who have completed the master's program in the Division of Clinical Psychology Graduate School Graduate School of Liberal Arts.
