A lecture was held atHachioji Campus with a guest Japanese handball player from the Deaflympics to deepen understanding of hearing impairments.

On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus, a life design seminar was held by Satsuki Tada, Senior Assistant Professor Faculty of Medical Technology Department of Sport and Medical Science, at the university. Professor Yukinori Nakajima of the Faculty of Industrial Technology, Tsukuba University of Technology, and Ryoya Hayashi of the Faculty of Industrial Technology, Tsukuba University of Technology, who is a member of the Japanese Deaflympics handball team, gave a lecture to deepen understanding of hearing impairments.
On the day, they spoke about the lives of people with hearing impairments and their relationship with society. Nakajima introduced basic knowledge and issues related to hearing impairments, and the students listened intently. Hayashi spoke about her experiences living at university with a hearing impairment, ways to communicate in everyday life, and the importance of understanding those around her. There was also a demonstration of communication using sign language, which provided the students with a valuable opportunity to actually experience using sign language.

Hayashi will represent Japan in the handball team at the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics, which will be held in Japan for the first time in November 2025. Towards the end of the lecture, the students and members of the university's Cheerleading Club BUFFALOS, danced together to "Shuwashuwa☆Deaflympics!" ^*, cheering on Hayashi's success at the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics and deepening their understanding of hearing impairments.

Our university will continue to actively carry out educational activities aimed at realizing a diverse and inclusive society.

• * The dance music incorporates sign language with the aim of giving children an opportunity to learn sign language in preparation for the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics, which will be held in Japan for the first time.
