Two Courses in the Department of Education and Culture
Two Courses in the Department of Education and Culture

In the 3rd year, the Department of Education and Culture offers two course selections, the "Lifelong Learning Course" and the "Secondary Education Course," for more in-depth and specialized study with an eye to future careers. This course selection is an opportunity to support students to develop their prospects proactively.

Lifelong learning course

In the Lifelong Learning Course, students will study education and culture. We hope that students will acquire knowledge and skills that will be useful not only in educational institutions but also in general companies, and that they will be able to pursue a variety of career paths. It is difficult to describe education in one word, but we could say that it is "to help develop and develop innate and acquired abilities and qualities as much as possible, to grow as individuals with rich individuality, and to help them live happily as members of society."
When you graduate from the Lifelong Learning Course, you will be awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Here, "Arts" refers to things created by humans, and can be broadly understood as culture. In this course, we would like you to learn both education and culture.
Cultures are also diverse. One thing I want you to think about is that currently, about 8 billion people live on one spaceship Earth, but in a few decades, that number will be 9 billion. In such a situation, it will be difficult to build a sustainable society unless people living under various climates and traditions share a common set of values. In other words, understanding diverse cultures is essential. Education is not something that only schools provide, but companies, communities, and various organizations are thinking about education in the context of space and time. Lifelong learning is indeed one of the important cultural activities of human beings. I hope that you will study education and culture during your four years at university, gain many skills, and play a part in creating a society in which your generation and your grandchildren's generation can live rich lives.

Secondary education course

The Secondary Education Course is an independent course for students who wish to become teachers (social studies, geography, history, civics, English, health and physical education) at junior and senior high schools. Students clarify their intention to select the Secondary Education Course in the second semester 2nd year, and from 3rd year, they begin to study the specialized subjects necessary for teaching in earnest and in depth as students of the course.
As a course to develop the qualities and abilities of a teacher, we offer courses such as "Teaching Profession Theory (1st year High School and Senior High School)", "Principles of Education (Junior High School and Senior High School)", "Educational Systems and Management (Junior High School and Senior High School)", "Mental and Physical Development and the Learning Process (Junior High School and Senior High School)" that are linked to subjects related to the teacher training course from the first year, and subjects related to teaching are subdivided according to the type of license desired to be obtained and are arranged so that students can learn systematically. Furthermore, we have created new courses that specialize in subjects necessary for the teacher training course, such as "Law (Teaching Profession)" and "Politics (Teaching Profession)" and provide general and comprehensive content.
In addition, through studies starting from 1st year such as "Living in Society" and "Exploring Learning," which are related to contemporary educational issues, we aim to develop teachers with knowledge of lifelong learning. We also offer subjects such as "Educational Research Seminar," "On-site Teaching Material Development Research," and "Observation Training" to help students understand the reality of school education, and we aim to enrich clinical learning by cultivating teachers with practical teaching abilities backed by subject expertise and a wealth of knowledge and skills.
In addition, we have established a guidance system in which students in the course are divided into groups of several people and assigned a teacher to supervise them, allowing them to receive a wide range of consultation regarding their studies, lifestyle, and career paths in order to become teachers.
