The Department of Judo Therapy at Teikyo University does more than just aim to become a judo therapist. With a focus on judo therapist we aim to obtain an athletic trainer who can play an active role in the field of professional sports, and a junior high school or high school teacher's license (health and physical education) that makes use of the knowledge of judo rehabilitation. The faculty provides detailed support toward the course students aim for. In addition, the Utsunomiya Campus has three faculties of medical care, science and engineering, and liberal arts, and supports learning from various fields.
A judo therapist uses traditional judo techniques to treat fractures, dislocations, sprains, bruises, and contusions (muscle and tendon injuries) without surgery. This department belongs to a department where students learn various medical techniques such as vision correction, nursing, medical radiation, clinical examination, and about department of Sport and Medical Science. In addition, we aim to be a judo therapist in the best environment where we can feel the cutting edge that is indispensable for modern medical care, such as cooperation with the School of Medicine and the hospital attached to the School of Medicine.
Campus with 3 systems of medical care, science and engineering, and humanities
The Utsunomiya Campus, where the Department of Judo Therapy is located, has the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Economics, Department of Regional Economics. The Utsunomiya Campus, which has three systems of medical care, science and engineering, and humanities, plays the role of an integrated university. Students can also take courses in other faculties such as bioscience, robotics, and business science, so they can understand the structure of the body and acquire mechanical knowledge. It will also help students when they think about independence as a judo therapist after graduation.
National examination measures
In the 4th grade, classes are divided according to proficiency level, and full-scale national examination preparation begins. First of all, students intensively supplement their weak points. After that, they utilize e-learning and mock tests to improve our application skills. In addition, the Judo rehabilitation special lecture, which is set up in the 4th grade, is a class that summarizes the basic subjects and practical skills learned from the 1st year to 3rd grade for the national examination. At the same time, by taking advantage of after-school hours and non-class hours, students repeatedly learn practical skills, and while reconfirming, they surely acquire the skills and aim to pass the national examination.

Students can take the “Athletic Trainer” certification exam held by the Japan Sports Association during their studies and after graduation. This qualification is for sports instructors who provide first-aid treatment when athletes are injured on site, plan menus for athletes to recover from injuries, train for injury prevention, and provide educational guidance to athletes. Also, not only in the field of sports, but also when opening an osteopathic clinic, the qualification of an athletic trainer with sports medicine and scientific knowledge and skills is very effective.
Collaboration with local sports teams
By experiencing the actual site, you can get a clearer picture of your future goals. In addition, by interacting with athletes, you will deepen your understanding of athletic trainers and acquire skills and responses according to the athlete's physical condition and training stage. You will learn the rewards and importance of work through daily involvement such as conditioning, health management and maintenance.
Collaboration with other departments
The Faculty of Medical Technology, to which the Department of Judo Therapy Therapy belongs, has the Department of Vision Correction, Nursing, Medical Radiation, Clinical Examination, and Department of Sport and Medical Science, as well as departments that study various medical techniques that are indispensable in modern medicine. Although the campuses are different, we are working together through practical training, classes, and club activities. In addition, students can study in the best environment by cooperating with the Faculty of School of Medicine and the Hospital attached to the Faculty of School of Medicine. There are also various initiatives on the Utsunomiya Campus. We hold a "Bio Cafe" jointly with the Department of Biosciences to exchange research across disciplines. In club activities, trainer course students participate in the "Sky Project" to train, manage, and support flight pilots, and to collaborate in "aerospace engineering x sports science".

In the Department of Judo Therapy at our university, students can obtain a teacher's license for "health and physical education" in junior high school and high school. Martial arts (Judo, Kendo, Sumo) are compulsory in junior high school health and physical education, and physical education teachers who are familiar with the knowledge and skills of "Judo rehabilitation" can quickly respond to student injuries and first aid in class. Learning in this department is very important. The number of courses that must be taken has increased, and there are also educational training courses in the 4th grade, and about 12% of students study hard to obtain a teacher's license.

Advancing Graduate School school can be widely used for treatment by studying what you have learned as a specialized technique from an academic point of view and conducting scientific verification. The role of the Graduate School is important in order to lead from "art" to "academic". Teikyo University Graduate School of Medical Care and Technology has a Division of Judo Therapy course (master's course). In this graduate school, we not only establish academics, but also train judo therapist with advanced specialized knowledge and medical examination ability.
