In 1951, after World War II, the "Convention on the Status of Refugees" was adopted. After that, revisions were made, and those who meet the definition stated in the "Refugee Convention" are now recognized as "refugees". On the other hand, the number of "quasi-refugees" who are forced to move for various reasons even if they do not meet this definition and need protection is increasing.

Surrounded by conflicting countries such as Iraq and Syria, Turkey is the world's largest refugee host. Most of the Syrian refugees are scattered in the urban areas of Turkey, and some live like ordinary people for nearly 10 years. Many think they have adapted to Turkey because they are also allowed to work. On the other hand, there are many challenges because some Turkish people are concerned that they will be robbed of their jobs.

There are three ways to solve the refugee problem, but none of them is easy. Therefore, as a new movement, there are active efforts at companies and universities, such as focusing on the abilities and possibilities of individuals, recognizing the naturalization of excellent human resources, supporting entrepreneurship, and providing a place to play an active part in sports and art. It has become.

Teikyo University participates in the Refugee Higher Education Program (RHEP), which supports non-Japanese refugees living in Japan to study at the university. We accepted one Syrian refugee student as an international student. Finding clues to the refugee problem, which includes many problems such as human rights and politics, is the action of the SDGs itself and leads to the creation of new social value.
