Support the development of medical care As a base for joint research beyond clinical departments
Teikyo Academic Research Center is an organization centered on the School of Medicine of Teikyo University. It is a base for joint research beyond research groups and clinical departments, and provides widespread support centered on clinical research at our university.
With the main missions of "support for clinical research" and "education related to clinical research," we will accumulate know-how through research support. We aim to improve the quality of clinical research at Teikyo University through education and support.
Head of Center Professor Osuga
I am Osuga Yutaka Head of Center of Teikyo Academic Research Center (TARC). I would like to introduce the role and significance of TARC. As you all know, research is essential for the progress of medicine. Looking back at the history of medical research, since the introduction of German medicine in the Meiji era, Japan has placed emphasis on basic research using cells and animals. The results of basic research, such as the discovery of pathogens, directly led to clinical development. For this reason, a research foundation that emphasizes basic research has been established in Japan. However, as medicine has become more advanced and complex, the importance of clinical research directly targeting humans has gradually increased. In particular, the concept of evidence-based medicine (EBM), which emphasizes the results of clinical research directly targeting humans as scientific evidence, was introduced to Japan from Europe and the United States around the end of the 20th century, and clinical thinking has changed significantly. In response to this trend, a clinical research center was established at Teikyo University in 2012, one of the first in Japan. This was due to the insight of Professor Tamio Teramoto, who is currently an advisor to TARC. TARC is made up of clinical research experts. We cooperate and support clinical research, starting with Teikyo University Hospital, in order to foster ideas in medical treatment and academic activities at Teikyo University and contribute to society. We also engage in awareness-raising and educational activities with the aim of improving the level of clinical research at Teikyo University, and conduct TARC seminars, clinical research open lectures, and internships. Since its establishment, TARC has handled many clinical studies and has achieved many results. Clinical research is made possible by the cooperation of patients and others. Therefore, we carefully manage clinical research with safety as our first priority, with the patient in mind. In addition, since we receive cooperation from many patients, we strive to ensure that the research results are meaningful and can be fully returned to society. We hope that many of you will understand clinical research and contribute to the advancement of medicine together with TARC. Thank you very much.
It was established in February 2012 to bring together the university's resources and engage in clinical research across the university. We carry out research and education related to clinical research from a global perspective in order to embody the ``Healthy Hospital,'' a circle of security and trust created by patients, medical professionals, and society, which is the basic philosophy of Teikyo University Hospital. Through the development of new pharmaceuticals, medical devices, testing methods, diagnostic methods, and treatments, we will contribute broadly to society through advances in medicine, healthcare, and health. Specifically, from an academia's perspective, we aim to ``promote university-led clinical research'', ``dissemination of evidence to local communities'', and ``globally deploy practical EBM'', with the aim of serving as a model case in Japan. We aim to build a center that practices world-standard research and education.
