Aircraft Design Laboratory (Takashi Hiramoto Laboratory)
Aircraft Design Laboratory (Takashi Hiramoto Laboratory)

In the research of our laboratory, we mainly conduct research on the contents that are issues in the practice of aircraft design. This is an attempt to connect the basics learned at university with the techniques that can be used in actual machine design. Aircraft design is also one of the mechanical designs and is an application in the academic field of mechanical engineering. It is training to be active as an engineer in the real world to be interested in how what you learned at university is applied and used. Specific research items include measurement of helicopter characteristics using actual aircraft, impact absorption structures, and impact characteristics of composite structures. I would also like to work with students on research on aircraft design, helicopter engineering, and reliability engineering, which are my subjects.

Our Research

Study of shock absorption structure

We will study structures that absorb drop impacts hard, such as helicopter skid structures. Based on the results so far, we have completed a simple drop test method including a measurement system. Currently, we are using this to conduct an evaluation test of the landing gear of a flying object for which a flight test is actually planned, and to compare the analysis calculation and the test based on the actual structure. In particular, we aim to establish an evaluation method for drop impact response.

Study on helicopter flight characteristics

We are conducting research through simulations and actual flight tests to deepen our understanding of helicopter flight characteristics. Although it is difficult to formulate the helicopter's motion and flight characteristics, we acquired data using an affordable measuring device used in unmanned aircraft, and from the flight data, the flight of the R22, which is a training aircraft for the Helicopter Pilot Course of our university. I am studying the characteristics. In addition, we are trying to acquire data such as differences in steering that can maintain speed depending on the skill level of maneuvering, and we are thinking of using it for maneuvering training.

Research on composite strength focusing on the effects of high-speed impact

As part of elemental research on structures using composite laminated boards, we are studying the behavior and strength of laminated boards that have been subjected to high-speed impact. This assumes that the composite applied to the aircraft structure will be damaged by obstacles such as pebbles that can occur during takeoff and landing gliding. In the research, we will proceed with these to investigate the problems in applying composite materials of the actual machine structure, and to investigate the strength characteristics of the composite material structure with a view to applying it to the impact absorption structure.
