Every day, we hold regular study sessions to refine our research guidance skills, and also to improve our ability to research and present information. Additionally, we often oversee experimental classrooms both within and outside the university, and involve undergraduate students as assistants. We strive to provide opportunities for our research lab members to challenge themselves and share both the joys and difficulties of our work over the course of the year.

HF-I, a RNA binding protein of E. coli, was originally discovered as a gene involved in the growth of certain bacteriophages, but it is also a protein that regulates gene expression within E. coli. By site-directed mutagenesis of this gene, we aim to compare and study the functions of the mutant proteins produced from the mutated genes and clarify the relationship between structure and function.
The identification of biological species is changing from morphological classification to DNA-based classification. This is also the case in the world of the common insects, dragonflies, where the classification of damselflies, in particular, has changed significantly in the past ten years or so. We are attempting to verify the species by collecting damselflies from around the university and extracting DNA for DNA typing.
We are working on the development of easy-to-implement science experiments and science projects that can be performed at elementary, junior high, and high schools. We make use of commercially available materials, and through the combination of different topics and other innovations, and further improvement through practical experience both within and outside the university.
